Portland Oregon Real Estate Survey - Buy Now, Wait or Rent?
Mar 19th, 2008 by Jody McLeod
Speculation on whether now is a good time to buy a home in Portland is being bantered around on many of the local real estate blogs. Opinions range widely, from dooms-dayers telling us that the Portland market is going to completely fall out, moderate thinkers that approach the market with caution, but think that there are deals to be had, and still others that feel Portland will sail through this slump and come out smelling like roses. I have listed some of some of these local blogs below for you to check out.
Maybe you have already formed an opinion. If so, I would love to hear what you think. All it takes is a click of a button:

Local real estate blogs in no particular order:
- Portland Housing Blog
- Portland Oregon Real Estate Blog
- Mike On Real Estate
- Western Title and Escrow Blog
- RE:pdx
- RE Conversation
- Portland Real Estate Blog
- Inside Portland Real Estate
- Portland Real Estate Outsider
In case you are wondering where I stand on this issue, I place myself in the moderate category. I believe Portland is still going through market changes, but if you are going to buy and hold for the long term then now is the time. Mortgage rates are low and sellers are accepting lower offers with more contingencies.

I would echo what you said. If you are going to buy and hold history predicts you will be fine. We won’t know the bottom until it has passed just as no one knew the top until it passed. If you are in no hurry, and who really is, you might as well wait and save up your money. Keep renting until you have your reason to buy. That is my opinion.
